(How I Feel) Taking my son to college today in spite of... everything.
Here we are. The day we've been anticipating for over a year (concerned). I'm not inexperienced when it comes to dropping off a child at...

The freedom of the acceptance of death
The social distancing we are all learning to navigate and adapt to has left the world unmoored. For those with a lot left to lose, or who haven't ever really stopped to consider their own mortality, the pandemic has raised anxiety, paranoia, and fear about contracting the virus and regrets about the things they previously took for granted or things on their bucket list they never made happen. What has been particularly fascinating for me is the response of the elderly and the

Immigrants, Enchantment, Connection
In 2019, I was gifted an opportunity to attend a training conference in Boston to become a Co-Active coach. Co-Active is the oldest, most-reputable coaching model and, based on what I witnessed and experienced in these 2.5 days, it is no wonder. The leaders, attendees, energy, conversation were brilliant. I left feeling vibrant and bubbly. The ordinary had become extraordinary. At the hotel lobby cafe, the woman behind the counter didn't know the cost of the two hard-boiled

Waiting can be prickly . . . but it doesn't have to be.
There's been a construction project going on outside my neighborhood for what seems like months. It's difficult to tell what's going on because there is an enormous pipe laying on one side of the two-lane road and it's unclear where the pipe is going to go or how it's going to get there. Traffic is narrowed down to one lane in this area. It is not typically a "busy" street but it's easier to see how many people use the road when cars start backing up. It's funny how hard it

Follow your bliss
Something extraordinarily beautiful happened to me today. I work at a consignment store (The Stock Exchange in Chapel Hill- go there- it is awesome) on Tuesdays. I started shopping there more than 10 years ago when my dearest friend, Claire, told me she shopped there. Claire had always been fearless with fashion, loving color and fabrics, her clothes reflecting her mood, which was always upbeat, even in less-than-upbeat circumstances. Her flair was contagious. I wanted so

Introvert or Extrovert? Does it matter?
I've always thought of myself as an extrovert because I am quite chatty. I think I am at my very best when meeting someone new. I can talk to anyone, about anything (if before 8 pm). I can comfortably strike up a conversation in any setting. I began traveling across the country between my divorced parents when I was 5 years old. Invariably, I would deplane very excited about the amazing conversation I had with the passenger next to me. The 1970's were a peak time for hijac

Teach your children well
" It is not what you do for your children but what you have taught them to do for themselves, that will make them successful human beings. "- Ann Landers I have been a huge fan of Love and Logic (visit www.loveandlogic.com ) since my kids were little, and it's always neat when a lesson I've read transforms the way I live my life. Many years ago, I read a post about what to prioritize when it comes to managing all the time demands between the school dismissal bell and a r
